Research

User interviews Synthesis

Five users from different age groups and industry backgrounds were interviewed and collected the data. Also, satisfaction points as well as pain points mentioned by users, were recorded.

  • Attendees are always unhappy with the food offered, specifically people with dietary restriction

  • For free or marketing events where you need to attract attendees to join, food offered at event is one of the driving factors

  • Passing down upper management goals expected from the event to team members is most critical.

  • Logistical and technical challenges are always faced

  • To follow budget constraints is difficult

  • Team communication is a challenging factor for

  • Food  management is tricky, specifically with dietary restrictions

Competitive Analysis

A competitive analysis is done focusing on three competitors. They were compared against the solutions they are providing their strengths and weaknesses. Also, analysis is done to find if there are any gaps in the present system. One thing pop out that no application was providing any support for food catering or food vendors. And also dietary restrictions were not collected. This issue grab my attention and started research further.

After completing the initial phase of research, a second round of competitive analysis was conducted to delve deeper into the intricacies of the subject matter. The initial understanding was to find a solution for event management. However, after basic research, I found out that there was a concern raised related to food offered at the event specifically related to dietary restriction. This subsequent competitive analysis was mainly aimed to find if there are already any competitors providing such a solution. This iterative approach not only bolstered the robustness of our research but also ensured that the application included all the underlying concerns and provided a solution for it.

Personas

These personas were created keeping all the user expectations and goals in mind.

Logo, Icon Designs

Branding is always an interesting part of design process. And logo is one of the important factor. created few rough sketches of the ideas. Then digitized couple of shortlisted ideas. Here ‘V’ from the Venderopedia is created with stacking food trays of different sizes.

Design System

Component Library

Components helped keep uniformity through out the application. And also speedup the process by reducing redundant work.

Usability Testing

The usability test was conducted with 5 participants from various backgrounds and age groups. The test went through smoothly. Candidates were able to navigate through the screens properly and without any help needed. Users loved the color theme and overall design. Users were able to complete each task end to end without any obstruction. All the users were able to complete ‘the creation of the event and adding invitees’ flow, ‘searching vendors, and placing orders’ flow.

Feedback Received

  • Event details page needs to show order details on tap of the confirmed order

  • Add attendee not showing confirmation

  • On your orders page if you click on one order, it should show order details, if the order has already been placed, otherwise shows the order placement flow

  • The top logo if clicked needs to navigate to the home page

  • Remove mention of ‘Non-Vegetarian’ for a food item, as usually only dietary-restricted food is marked this way and not all items.

Received feedback was consumed immediately and design changes were implemented

Impact

Event Managers

  • This application provides one platform for Vendors, event managers as well as attendees of the event.

  • Event Manager can create new events, generate a list of invitees, send invitations, order food for event, and can track the status of the event

Vendors

  • Vendors can advertise their catering services specifically in big quantities and related prices

  • Menu items can be displayed with specific dietary restrictions so that it becomes easy to choose items to order.

Attendees

  • While responding to the RSVP attendees can give their dietary preferences that way it becomes easy for event managers to order food accordingly.

  • Attendees can benefit from the event to the fullest

What Next?

  • This application can be further enhanced to incorporate all different vendors other than food vendors.

  • Different team member profiles can be created who can work on the same event and collaborate

  • Reminder notifications can be sent to attendees as the event approaches

Thank you for having a look at my case study. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
